Hi there,

I have found I have a generic 2.5mm plug connected to an old IR receiver (which might have went with a TV capture card). I want to use it with an Arduino if suitable...

The shape looks slightly different for a Silverlink cable in the photo attached below

Before cutting up the cable to communicate with the arduino, does the plug look okay?

The official silverlink is grey and the other cable is black...

Thanks
Standard stereo 2.5mm jack plugs usually do the job, indeed.
The only problem I've run into with "standard" 2.5mm TRS plugs is that you may need to shave down the rubber around the plug, using a pencil sharpener or (carefully) with a knife. Try it out first, and if it doesn't seat properly in the socket, you'll need to make that adjustment.
