A few minutes ago William Osman announced that OpenSauce will be happening next year!

When: July 18-20, 2025
Where: San Francisco Bay Area, San Mateo (not Con Lechuga) County Event Center
Website: https://opensauce.com/

Since my small booth was a huge success and a whopping 100% of definitely-not-manipulated voters want to see Cemetech at OpenSauce, I think it'd be a huge miss not to attend.

We just need Kerm's blessing and a few volunteers to make things start happening! I'm willing to bring (and rebuild) everything from my last booth. I'm also available to answer any questions about the event!
Applications to exhibit at Open Sauce are open so I will be starting organizing a Cemetech booth! Much of the plan will depend on whether we can use MakerFair displays.

OpenSauce FAQ

Incentives for Volunteers:
Volunteers get free entry to OpenSauce and also get to attend a party solely for Exhibitors. This party was very chill last year and is your best chance to have a meaningful conversation with some of your favorite content creators! You'll also get to meet Cemetech members (duh)!

Volunteers:
If any Cemetech member is interested in helping run the booth then please post in this thread or reach out to me via PM or Discord! The date and location is in the first post. If you are under 18 then you will need a parent or guardian present.

Volunteering will require you to help transport and set up displays during setup day.
During the event you'll need to help keep the displays functional and speak with OpenSauce attendees to explain one or more of the displays.
With enough total volunteers, you won't need to be at the booth the entire time. You'll be able to walk around OpenSauce to see other booths and attend creator talks/shows.

How many Volunteers?
  • If we can't use the MakerFair displays then we'll probably only need a small booth. Based on my previous experience, a small booth requires at minimum 3 volunteers to run smoothly.
  • If we can use the MakerFair displays then a larger booth will be necessary. I estimate this will require 4-7 volunteers to run smoothly.

Potential Displays:
If anyone thinks a certain project or program would be cool to display at OpenSauce then post it below! Self-promotion is absolutely valid!

I can personally contribute:
  • TI-84 Plus CE with wireless charging, backlit keys, and speaker
  • TI-84 KE
  • Nspire CX II -T CAS running Doom.
  • HP Prime G2
  • Solar module for the TI-84 Plus + lamp
  • Interactive exploded view of a TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Plus, and TI-84 Plus CE
  • Zero prototypes.
  • Red TI-84 Plus CE prototype.
  • TI-81, TI-83 Plus, TI-89 hw 2
  • Calculator Flamethrower (I don't want to fire it since that will require extra safety considerations)

Just want to see the booth?
If you don't feel like volunteering but still want to see the booth, you can buy tickets here: https://opensauce.com/tickets/ (Prices will go up in 2 days).
Pro tip: If you buy a ticket now and later become a volunteer then OpenSauce will refund your ticket.

I definitely won't be able to come in-person, but I think it would be cool to have a TI-68k showing an animation of a rotating 3D graph made with CycleGen on the side. Here's a video to show what I'm talking about. (On second thought, maybe it would be better for both the display and the volunteers to not let people scrub the animation by touching the D-pad)

It's nothing groundbreaking, but it might get some oohs and aahs out of some folks. Laughing

If this can be displayed, just let me know (and mention which calc + HW rev will be used) - I'll send a GDB and some prepackaged scripts that help set up and maintain the display as easily as possible. Also I'll APD-proof the viewing program, lol
While I won't be able to attend, I think it would be cool to have a calculator connected to a computer or synth or something with either the midi player or midi piano (if interactive displays work well).
Sadly, I won't be abe to attend, but I could give you some bad ideas, I guess. There's a network to connect calculators to other calculators, right? You could make a bunch of people play Hangman or some other game with each other on different calculators, and give a prize (some sort of souped up 84+ or something?) to whoever performs best at the end of the event. You could also make a bunch of calculators light up at specified intervals to create an animation.
I think a network-connected demo (like the guestbook from Maker Faire 2013) would be neat: something that people can post to from a calculator, and see on the internet later.
Apparently Kerm was already on board way back in February! That means we'll need plenty of volunteers. I've edited the second post with the volunteer status of a few members so I don't accidentally reach out to the same people.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, we'll see what we can do!
