For christmas this year I received a kindle and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to books to get, preferably in the fantasy or science fiction genre.

For the start of 2010 it really is good to read a nice book. Maybe self help or inspirational themes that can bring a nice start for the year. Mine's got a very long title but its a Go Gide book for 30s.
