According to the Wikipedia page, "The game is essentially a Space Invaders clone". I wonder, what sort of features are you looking at specifically? I really enjoy the current games out there, by the way.
Check the "differences" section. There's a bonus level, and some other features suitable for a portable version.

I do agree, but I feel that the above games themselves are enough to keep many occupied. Plus, these changes are not really so major as to warrant a rewrite of the original. Like they always say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
