83PSE: "RAM FAILED"

So the school gave me another broken calculator... It's an 83PSE(!) so I really want to fix it.

When I turned it on first it had weird garbage on the screen like black w/ random white dots & vertical lines

I took all the batteries out and put them back in after 15min and got

and then it turned off
Yes. seriously.
When I turned it back on with ON+DEL or mode or clear it says "RAM FAILED" in the center of the screen and won't do anything. I have never heard of this happening before.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I have the same issue with my 83+. I don't know whats up.

*EDIT*

I don't really know what's causing it, but I've talked to benryves about my issue. It seemed to point to the LCD ribbon/connections going all weird.

Its a hardware issue.

that doesn't make sense because the words display FINE...?
