Ok, set the root, but the linux line gets
file not found
Technomonkey, I know you're very excited about helping him, and you're doing a very excellent job, but we generally frown on double-posts within 12 hours or so of each other unless it's something super-duper vital.

OK, I'm sorry; I forgot my forum etiquette... and as for EpicFail, did you try the second option? Both (hd0,1)?
Yes, and even with the numbers at 2 and 3.
all i can think of now is to totally re-install Ubuntu... sorry i did this to you... You still have the disc/iso, right?

It's worth a try, just be careful not to trash your Windows partition. Smile
Just uninstalled, now reinstalling.... Most likely the sound issue will persist, since the version will still be the stable release.

Thanks for the help, glad you didn't just give up and leave.

You're welcome! I'm surprised you weren't irritable after going through all that for nothing, though...
Well, it showed me a bit about how Linux works... And I say it was (a tiny bit) interesting.

BTW, talked to my friend (he happens to be a sound developer for Ubuntu 10.10!) and he said it still wouldn't of worked, as the sound is still very unstable.

Yeah, my whole reason to try to lead you through GRUB was to give you some experience; if I didn't think you were smart enough to understand linux, I would've just told you to reinstall right away... In fact, my belief is that ANYBODY can understand ANYTHING with a little practice! Finally, I never try to give up unless I'm totally out of ideas on how to fix it... I am quite a hard worker, especially with computers and such!

I must thank YOU for sticking with me and not calling it quits when I was still trying!
Your welcome, hopefully this is the final update on the left... Any problems and I'll PM you.

Why PM? You should continue to update this thread, that's what it's here for. Smile
Yeah, but on the SAX, I see a massive list of "added a post in LINUX PROBLEMS", I'll add-on if problems peruse.

8 min left until installation is complete.

And what's wrong with that? Smile Cemetech is a help site; our aim is to provide help.

Right, I'm sure everybody on this site has helped another person at one time or another, and Cemetech's users don't just program (if they can, unlike me). I have found that the people on this site have been very friendly! (except for the occasional spelling/grammar correction, which really isn't mean, but isn't polite either...) Heck, I'll even probably start correcting spelling/grammar at one point - I'm sure it gets tiring if you see too many misspelled words or grammar errors!

After ten years, trust me, you want people to ask questions in a coherent manner if they're asking for help. Trying to read a massive paragraph with no capital letters, no punctuation, and the grammar of a six-year-old, it gets very tiring very fast (besides the fact that you lose all respect for the asker).
