Do what my dad does, and make a spreadsheet with all your passwords in it (site's URL in one coloumn, password in another), and then password protect that spreadsheet (its an option in excel, I'm assuming openoffice has it aswell)

Oh, and next time one of your accounts is hacked, change the passwords for all of your other accounts (as in change the password for EVERYTHING that firefox's password manager or similar is keeping)

I dunno if I would have "played the game" if I were you. It sounds like he's just a power-hungry loser and needs to feel the gratification of getting people to play by his rules.

I woke up this morning an could no longer access my temporary hotmail account. So I created a new account. I'm going to have to cut my losses. I'll have one of my friends invite me back to gmail and make some random email address with like a 30 digit password. Hopefully that will be enough to deter this jerk. I can't tell you how angry this experience has made me. I feel violated and irate.

I'd guess there's a good chance it's someone you know in some way; these people rarely just pick random people. Is there anyone you can think of who could do this?

That was the first thing I thought, but there really aren't people I know who would do this, let alone have the capability of doing this. As long as I don't get attacked at my new email address, I'm ok (not excited) with the idea of cutting my losses. My only other thought would be to call gmail and tell them that my account was hacked because telling them via email hasn' produced any results.

It is highly, highly unlikely he brute-forced you, as google would notice if an e-mail account was getting slammed with several hundred invalid passwords each minute or so, and still, that would take several years for a password of any decent length (6-

it is much more likely that your passwords were snagged from the firefox password manager, which recently had a flaw found that allowed a remote site to get all your passwords (or something like that)

true, I never use password manager in FF (but then again, most sites I go to auto-login anyways).

Also they added a feature so if you get like 3 or more wrong passwords you have to do a pic verification thingy (might not deter some people though >.>)

all the pic thing is there for is in case of a brute force attack on your password account.

The firefox bug isn't really a "bug" per se; it's just a clever use of the autocomplete user/pass manager with hidden form elements, or even form elements masked by a div.

That was probably it, which explains why both my hotmail account and gmail account went down simultaneously. I'll make sure not to let firefox remember my password.

Not to push Opera, but it is kinda nice that you have to actually push the little wand so it won't give it to sites you don't want it to (and when you do it logs you in to =P)

I've been using a version of firefox that I compiled for my comp (running Ubuntu 6.10 EdgyEft) called swiftfox. I installed Opera, and I guess I'll give it a shot. I've used it before with windows, but I never really saw any reason to pick it over Firefox. I guess I finally found a reason.

Also, can we please keep this topic from falling into a ff vs. opera debate. Thanks.
