My goals are pretty much the following:
- Learn how to program using BASIC
- Learn how to interface with the USB port
- Try to figure out how to install more RAM and flash (the most difficult
)
How online (or offline) resources should I read to get started? How did you get started? Wat went well and what didn't?
Any advice would be appreciated!
buy this book. KermMartian +
Thanks for the suggestion, Calculatordream! I think Calculator dream meant to link to my book
Programming the TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus, which includes an extra
digital appendix with TI-84 Plus CE-specific information.
Whoops. forgot the actual link. I pulled up the Amazon link and everything:)
Not to take away from Kerm or anything, but in terms of online resources I would recommend having Awesome TI-DOCS on hand just so you can really have all of your calculator resources in one place,
https://github.com/TI-Toolkit/awesome-ti-docs?tab=readme-ov-file, and if you want to get into hardware, the Awesome docs also have a section dedicated to the history and specifications of the hardware. This guide will also help you learn lower level(closer to binary) languages like C that will allow you to get even more in depth with USB ports, as you can really understand how drivers work from the backend, and can learn useful skills for any computing job.
Edit: Forgot to Welcome you to the Calc coding world
Chapter 16 of the 83+ guidebook has an introduction to programming that's decent, as well as
a program to draw a Sierpinski triangle that has probably been many a student's first program. This is much more exhaustive than the printed documentation that comes with the calculators these days, but if you wanted a printed reference you could probably find a copy since they used to ship a printed copy of the entire guidebook.
The official documentation doesn't tutorialize much, but between that and simply looking at other peoples' programs you can probably develop a working understanding of BASIC- that's how I got started, at least.
Thank you everyone! I just realized I posted in the wrong category, whoops!
