It feels like every other week somebody’s calc battery starts dying. The CE is infamous for its “validating OS” issue. We also see many posts on Reddit about how people’s Nspires get stuck on a skeleton UI at boot due to a bad battery.
Is there a reason for people’s calc batteries dying so often or is the Internet just making a huge illusion out of it?
There's definitely some bias yes, but from what was seen over time, the "new" (not that new anymore) xxxxxxSPB batteries have issues when they get down to too low of a charge (at least the SPA ones aren't really known to have so that) and so you'll see this. It's less a problem on an Nspire than on the CEs though, as charging is still possible.
I haven't really had an issue with them as of yet and I've been using the same CE since 2020 with the stock battery
