So far, Chess programs have been created for the Casio Prizm and TI-Nspire, but not for the 84+ CE. Right now I'm busy working on my cellular automation program, but that will be wrapping up in the next few months (probably). I already have the preliminary graphics stuff set up for a Chess program, and several ideas on how to manage the rules of Chess (which is where the real challenge comes in). Here's some concept art:

Another possibility is something classic like Solitaire or Minesweeper. (Of course, I first need to actually learn how to play Solitaire of I want to recreate it in assembly. Razz ) I want to create a wide base of games and things to do on my calculator during math class.

So... what do you think? Would you like an assembly Chess program or Minesweeper on your 84+ CE? What sorts of features do you want? (Don't say AI unless you want to help me make the AI, because I don't even know where to start and assembly probably isn't the best way to start learning AI programming.)

Got any other ideas? Anything relatively simple would be awesome!

Also, if anyone knows a lot about 3D rendering... I may be willing to experiment a little, at least for a proof of concept. Wink
Lol, I was planning to make this as soon as the TI-84 Plus CE came out, but then I completely stopped programming for calculators.
I highly recommend that you build the Chess program (as opposed to Minesweeper or Solitaire), because I am a great fan of chess and feel like that is the program I want most for a calculator. Additionally, I will support you however I can, although I have little time and am no expert at Assembly.
A calculator chess program without an AI is fundamentally lacking, so I recommend that you look into that. The best way to go about the AI would be converting a small Chess AI that you can find online into Assembly. This can't, however, apply to the program overall, only for the AI, because of the different specifications of a calculator from, say, a cellphone.
I don't know anything about three-dimensional rendering, and would personally recommend making a regular, two-dimensional chess program.
Based on the results of the poll so far, it sounds like Chess is certainly my next step (of course, after I've finished Calcular Automation).

The 3D rendering would be only for a proof of concept, and to see how practical real-time 3D rendering is on a calculator.
Hactar, I am really happy to see what you will make! I think you are a super skilled assembly programmer that's always happy to help!
I personally think you should make chess, and a cool feature you could add would be multiplayer via the GraphLink cable.
Great idea! Sounds like a fun challenge indeed. As for 3D rendering, I could tell you a bit about all the fun stuff you can do with matrices and vector spaces and all that madness if you need some help. Of course, the internet is also a great place to get started. Wink Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing what you can create! Smile
Not sure if it's possible but multiplayer with 2 calculators using a link cable would be really nice.

I have been looking into this a bit, and I think it should certainly be possible to do this! I'm not sure how much latency there will be, but I will probably be able to create multi-calc multiplayer at least in turn-based games such as Chess.

According to WikiTI, it seems that I have at least 100 bytes shared, which should be plenty for simple turn-based games. I'll have to do some experimentation to find out for sure how this works.
Do I have to vote one in the poll? I'd love to see all of them! (as well as maybe Othello, with a competent AI) That concept art looks pretty nice. I'd love to know, would that game have an AI? I'd recommend doing it how Brian Coventry did it.

Othello is another one that I considered, but forgot to put in the poll. I'm not sure yet as to whether any of these games would have an AI, seeing as I have absolutely no experience in writing AI. Once the core PvP game is complete, I will look into AI possibilities.
